Nether Wasdale

Nether Wasdale is the beautiful hamlet situated at the southern end of Wastwater, sheltered by the magnificent Screes and looking down the length of the Wasdale valley towards Great Gable, Yewbarrow, & Lingmell which is such a classic vista that it is used as the symbol of the Lake District National Park.

For a great selection of low level walks from Strands and the Screes please click below (these walks will be added to the site in their form very soon but for now they are available as a word document)

The hamlet itself (which is sometimes referred to on the maps as Strands) is very well equipped for the visitor despite its small size. There is accommodation to suit all budgets and desires with the Screes Inn, the Strands hotel and the Low Wood Hall Country House Hotel all which provide superb facilities. For those who wish to be a little closer to nature there is the Church Stile Holiday Park and campsite, or Murt camping barn for those who don't wish to carry a tent.

Food and refreshments are readily available and the area boasts some lovely lower level and riverside walks.
